Meet Charlotte Hayes, Owner and event planner of Mounton Brook Lodge. Charlotte’s years of experience specialising in event management and beautiful bespoke wedding and events packages will allow you to experience the once in a lifetime memory that your special day deserves.

The story so far…..

Many years ago after living and working in the events industry in Madrid, Charlotte relocated back to the UK and set up Vanilla Mint, a company providing an industry leading service in catering and mobile bars for outside events in and around Chepstow and South Wales.

This business grew from strength to strength allowing Charlotte to expand and diverse. With weddings and outside events still being her passion, Charlotte went on to set up “Bella Country Weddings” providing exclusive marquee wedding and event packages and services in West of England and South Wales. The bespoke packages, included many elements and services personally tailored to give the complete package for clients with marquee hire and styling, fully staffed mobile bars, catering, luxury bathroom facilities, generators, wedding planning and much more. This allows the clients to enjoy a stress-free build up to their event and a relaxing day of enjoyment and celebration.

Mounton Brook Lodge’ original main stone building is a former traditional coaching Inn dated from the 17th century or some say possibly earlier.  The Old Forge Ceremony Barn is a beautiful 17th Century stone barn style building that was once a former blacksmiths. Tale suggests that at some point dating back, the blacksmith from The Old Forge married into the family that occupied the coaching Inn, that’s when they decided to merge the two stone buildings together to form one spectacular building which is now known as Mounton Brook Lodge.

The lodge is located in village called Pwllmeyric situated in South Wales, a short distance to the local historic market town of Chepstow which is located along the A48 road in the parish of Mathern.

Pwllmeyric is of Welsh decent meaning ‘Meurig’s pool’ which refers to the creek of the Severn estuary. Its name is associated with the king of the old Welsh kingdoms ‘Meurig ap Tewdrig’ whose father ‘Tewdrig’ was buried in Mathern.

Medieval history surrounds Pwllmeyric with old folklore stating that some of Mounton Brook Lodge’s inside walls are adorned with pieces of the Empress of Frances ship whose history includes Atlantic and trans-Pacific voyages.

Pwllmeyric is also in close proximity to historical buildings such as Chepstow Castle, the first stone built castle in Wales, dating back to the year after the Battle of Hastings in 1067.

The castle has a splendid position on the cliffs above the River Wye and was greatly enlarged in the 12th and 13th centuries. The restored Town Gate provides an impressive entrance to the town’s main shopping area.  Large sections of the 13th century Portwall remain standing today.

The name Chepstow derives from the Old English words “Chepe” and “Stowe” meaning market place. A busy port and shipyards contributed to Chepstow’s wealth particularly in the 18th and early 19th centuries leaving a rich legacy to the town in the many buildings dating from that period.

This beautiful historical town commands the entrance to the Lower Wye Valley in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Bella Country Weddings has been operating for over many years and as the company has evolved and grown, Charlotte and her team have gained extensive knowledge and valuable experience in creating the perfect event for their client’s special day.

Charlotte’s dream and end goal was then to find the perfect wedding and events venue in or around the Forest of Dean or Wye Valley. Understanding there was a real need for an events space in these areas, she didn’t want to just use any venue, it needed to be something truly special.

With this in mind, she searched for the perfect place for over two years and eventually stumbled upon the beautiful stone building: Mounton Brook Lodge in her home town of Chepstow! Charlotte and her husband have recently extended and renovated the building using bespoke builders and craftsman, into an elegant and stylish space which has created something stunning, with a relaxed feel, high quality food, great service and many more exceptional elements.
